National newspaper ABCs: Print sales hold during coronavirus outbreak before UK lockdown

UK national newspaper circulation figures for the first three weeks of March, in the early days of the Covid-19 outbreak, were released on 15th April and can be compared with the latest figures further down in this news post

The figures in the April 15th report span 2 to 22 March and show print sales were continuing broadly as normal until the UK officially went into lockdown on 23 March.

This three-week audit period reflects market activity prior to tightened Government restrictions. ABC said it had taken the decision to shorten the period because it is more comparable to earlier pre-lockdown figures. (Access article in FULL click below)

National newsbrand ABCs: Sales slump during UK lockdown

The latest national newspaper circulation figures show print sales took a hit during the lockdown imposed by the UK Government, but the impact is not as severe as it might have been.

The Financial Times and the i paper saw the biggest decline from March (pre-lockdown) to April, although this might partly be explained by the fact that both have strong digital offerings.

Under changes brought into force by ABC from today, News UK, publisher of the Sun and Times titles, has opted to keep its circulation data private and will now only share it, in confidence, with agencies. (Access article in FULL click below)
