Founded in 1951 the Association of Circulation Executives is a free to join trade association bringing together members from the field of newspaper and magazine publishing, wholesaling, distribution, print, marketing services and retailing.
ACE brings its members together regularly on a social basis, whether at the high-profile ACE Newspaper & Magazine Awards, the famous ACE Christmas Lunches, or one of the many less formal occasions run by ACE each year; and offers education programmes tailored to the our profession.
The aims of ACE are to:
- Foster fellowship, friendship, and the exchange of ideas between members of our industry.
- Promote a wider knowledge and understanding of best practice within our industry.
- Act as a forum for the discussion of common issues with all parties concerned with bringing newspaper and magazine brand content to their readership.
- Make working in this vibrant industry fun!

James Beardow – Chair
Sales & Marketing Manager, Operations (Newsprinters)
I began in the publishing industry over 23 years ago at Dawsons News, before moving on to Menzies Wholesale Management scheme. Throughout my career I’ve had the fortune to work for number of iconic national newspaper publications and magazine brands in a variety of Marketing, Subscription, Digital and Sales managerial roles. I joined News UK in 2014 as Sales & Marketing Manager to support the launch and development of Newssolutions a new commercial venture focusing on commercialising manufacturing, technology and logistics assets. I joined the General Committee in 2016 and look forward to actively participating with the team over the coming years.
Managing Director Jellyfish Connect
Carola joined Jellyfish in 2012 following 25 years working in various circulation and marketing roles across a range of consumer and B2B publishers. These include The Spectator, EMAP, TSL Education (now TES Global), The Economist and IPC (now Time Inc), and she has worked in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Jellyfish Connect is a specialist company within the Jellyfish Group and offers its magazine and newspaper clients the very best in digital subscription marketing expertise, multi-platform digital publishing and ABC-accredited and BPA compliant digital sales reporting and analysis. The company also owns and runs magazine.co.uk, the fastest growing print subscription website in the UK, and Pocketmags the leading newsstand selling digital publications worldwide through its website and apps.
I joined the General Committee in 2015 to help support and further develop the work ACE does for the industry and serve on the Marketing subcommittee.
Chief Hero – Magazine Heroes
Having worked for Time Out for over 7years and having taken the magazines in both London and New York from a paid to a Free distribution magazine, Dan now runs his own Circulation consultancy business – Magazine Heroes. He runs free distribution programs for various magazines as well as managing paid circulation titles and ABC submissions . Dan has worked in the industry for nearly 20 years in both marketing and circulation roles working on niche and international titles including; The Irish Times, The Jewish Chronicle, FT Business ,International Herald Tribune, Le Monde and Time Out. Head of Retail Sales and Trade Marketing – Mail Newspapers
I first started working in the industry in 2004 when I Joined Frontline / Bauer Media (previously Emap) and worked for them across a number of sales and marketing roles. I moved out of the industry in 2011 when I joined Tesco, initially working in a marketing position across non-food in their central European business. I couldn’t stay away though and moved back in to the industry to run the newspaper, Magazines and books categories at Tesco. I joined Mail Newspapers in December 2014 as Head of Retail Sales and Trade Marketing.
I joined the ACE General Committee in 2015 to support the aims of encouraging industry education and events that provide a forum to network.
Channel Controller – SmithsNews
I’ve worked for Smiths News (and in its previous guise of WH Smith News) since 1996 when I joined the team working in Peterborough. Over the years, having moved first into the Newspaper and then Retail teams, I’ve held a variety of account management roles and currently manage the teams responsible for the relationship with High Street, Travel and Independent channels for our business. I’ve also had the opportunity to branch out into some associated fields in the last few years, working to establish new communication lines with customers through new technologies. I joined the ACE GC in 2016, and been immediately co-opted onto the Marketing Sub Committee, and hope to support the organisations aim in providing a platform for our far reaching supply chain to interact and learn.
Group Circulation Manager – Marketforce
I joined this industry almost 30 years ago as a temp in Dawson News Head Office in Croydon. I grew to love the Trade and took a permanent role in the Magazine Team which developed over the years to an account management role, where my main client was Marketforce.
I joined Marketforce in 2004 as a Group Circulation Manager and I’ve spent the last 12 years managing teams and a wide number of publishing clients with portfolios ranging from mass market circulation to small specialist publications.
In my career I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people with innovative ideas and a passion for what they do. Joining the Ace GC is a way of continuing to connect with a wide cross section of people and, more importantly, to help the next generation of Newspaper and Magazine enthusiasts.
Head of Newstrade Marketing – Bauer Media/Frontline
I have worked in the magazine industry for over 25 years, covering a variety of roles within Frontline during that time (including Logistics, Wholesale and Newstrade Marketing). I currently head up the Newstrade Marketing team on the Bauer Media portfolio – working on such great brands as Heat, Closer, Grazia, Empire and MCN. My passion for the industry is strong now as it was when I first started all those years ago!

Managing Director – Menzies Media and Retail Services
Alan has over 30 years’ newstrade experience working for Menzies Distribution in various senior management roles throughout the UK. He is based in London, and for the past 4 years has headed up their corporate, free, and travel media services division.

Commercial Director Global Media Hub
I’ve worked in the world of magazine circulation since 2001 and in this time held senior roles for both publishers and distributors. In 2006 I took a couple of years out to establish and run a chain of sandwich shops but the unique world of publishing quickly drew me back in. Most recently I set up my own business providing magazines and newspapers to the cruise ship industry and shortly after became a shareholder and director of Global Media Hub where we develop bespoke distribution plans for publishers through a extensive network of venues in the UK and overseas. Having been one of the founding member of the NewstrAid KEY group I was keen to join the GC and help with the fantastic work ACE does in this great industry of ours.
